Help to trace out tag missing stator winding wire-125kva Gen set

I think what you need to do is get the rotor energised and the machine rotating and check out what appears on the various windings as to voltage and phase with the aid of an oscilloscope or other phase measuring device

The other method is apply low voltage DC to each winding one -by-one. With the help of permanent magnet compass try to find out each winding & poles (N/S). While doing this you will know the sequence of each winding to separate U,V &W. But for this you will have to dismantle the alternator. Best method is as our friend said; use CRO and multimeter to find each winding.

Rather than scratching my head , getting headaches and getting into the posibility of burning out windings if you make a mistake , I would do this . Take the generator apart and take the section with the windings to a motor winding repair shop . Since they work with this stuff everyday , it's likely that they can identify the leads simply by noting the physical locations where they come out of the windings . This gets the job done quicker , and leaves you with more time to do what you're trained/experienced in .

...even cheaper, get them to come to you and do the same thing!! In situ so to say.....
