I would be interested to know the material and the wear patterns of the rings. You appear to have two distinct tracks on the left and one deep track with signs of "wandering" on the right. Seems like your shaft may not be horizontal or you have some shaft runout. Oil rings have been used for a very long time and mostly successfully, but you need to ensure that you have looked at all the things mentioned in the linked article "it is acknowledged that oil rings are satisfactory as long as shaft peripheral speeds are neither too slow nor too fast (Ref. 3) and as long as shaft horizontality, ring immersion, ring eccentricity, bore surface finish and lube oil viscosity are well controlled, reliability-focused thinking has led to a re-examination of the vulnerabilities ....."

A word of warning though - if you intend to repair the shaft be wary of hard chrome or ceramic metal spray repairs as the surface finish can be very "smooth" resulting in slippage of the oil ring.

There are plain bearings for this shaft having two oil rings for each bearing. Oil rings are made with non metalic (composite material). Machine speed is 4300 rpm. It is non drive side journal.
