Use the published Wiring Regulations applicable to the location.

I generally run with 10A per square mm of wire, the wiring regs are all different for the following (short list)

wire free in space (large seperation) wire running in a bundle with ventilation, and without ventilation, running in a conduit/trunking, with/without ventilation, buried... and so forth..

That depends upon Load Current and Type of Metal used.
