340nm intense LEDs and LED arrays required

10/06/2007 1:06 AM

Friends,

I am looking for 340nm and 255nm intense LEDs and LED arrays. Has any one tried these and let me know the source that is also reasonable in price.

Shyam,

These are very high frequencies for LEDs!

There are a number of companies that make low power UV lasers that pulse close to the 340nm wavelength, but I've never heard of either LEDs or diode lasers that have reached these wavelengths as yet.

Possibly, check JDS Uniphase or Newport or Coherent. If they don't have them they probably don't exist. I hope you prove me wrong. Good luck!

Dear Vermin

Both 255nm and 340nm LEDs are now used in bio-experiments, however they are not yet very common in the market. I will like to locate the manufacturers of these rather than traders to get some reasonable price bargain. I am searching for links to manufacturers and yet to find a right source. I need few hundreds of these for my next experiment.

I also looked for xenon lamp with 340nm filter but that is not all that narrow due to filter design and each narrow band filter will cost me hundreds of dollars. I want to save dollars and want the simplicity of LED switching mechanism for optical beam modulation.

If you come across any good 340nm LED source then let me know.

Shyam,

So you are OK with these being LEDs and not laser diodes. I will keep my eyes open for you. If I see anything, I'll be sure to forward it on to you.

Regards,

vermin-

LASER diode is far more better. Do you have any good reference for 340nm laser diode? Generally 680-nm laser diode frequency doubling scheme is used to get 340nm. If they are within my reach then I want to try them in an array to get more power and more beams in small zone. I can spend few hundreds of dollars for laser diodes that can give 340nm 10mW optical power and can work for an year or two in CW mode. I can also use in pulsed mode to extend its life.

Very good idea.

I don't personally, but I know there are a lot of different wavelengths out there. For doubling (SHG) or tripling (THG), you need non-linear optical material, which can add price.

Just for the fun of it, check out this location on eBay. It usually has a lot of interesting stuff...

JDSU was supposed to manufacture these. I have contacted Ako Kitissou, Product Application Engineer, JDSU Corp.to see if they are ready to sell the product now. I know they are not going to ask small money for anything.

Perhaps those are near 400nm LEDs.

These will be expensive, $100's of dollars per arrays are to be expected. At 255nm to 340nm, not many companies are possible.

There is Seoul Semiconductor that has a division called Seoul Optodevice that makes LED's to 255nm. They have an agreement with Sensor Electronic Technology inc, witch can even go to 247nm.

Given your type of work, the SETI offer is more flexible, as they build arrays and sell in chip form.

At 350 and 365nm, The Fox Group makes arrays nearby where I live.

At 365nm, try Opto Technology multi chip arrays.

Dear sir,

I read with interest about your requirement for LED for 340 nm, i heard there are few companies manufacturing the same, i am also looking forward for some information, please let me know if you have found a source.

many thanks and regards
