Better to track and discourage cheaters than attempting to block, that just drives the prices up....or maybe that's the whole idea....?

I would hope that would be the case, but in the workplace, cheaters are just as likely to claim credit for the work of others. It's called "applying what you learned in school".

I'm still a firm believer in karma. Even those who claim credit can only get so far before they're exposed.

The trouble is when you have a 'club' in the workplace. Those accepted in the 'club' will be rewarded regardless.

This bribery case is a different ethical issue all together.

True but it is an indicator of the ethics taught at Amerika's elite skools.

I never said it was taught at all the elite academia nor even in a tenth of those elite classrooms where unethical acts exist. Stop reading more than is written. If you don't, it will make you vulnerable to known persuasive mind control like propaganda and advertising.

Cheating for some qualifications I can see your point as it being a grey area, but for other qualifications this is not a victimless crime or ethical grey area.

How about an extreme but still realistic example:

A man fakes his qualifications to become a doctor and kills a child through his own incompetence.

You could punish the doctor, but the child is still dead.

People, even babies die all the time under the care of so-called competent, physicians...

They may die in the care of competent physicians because the illness is untreatable.

They may die in the care of physicians who are less than fully competent.

There is no reason for them to die because the physician has committed a fraud.

This then falls to the legal system, you sue, this starts an investigation into the "Doctor's' qualifications, if his or her qualifications are not legitimate or even if they are, if negligence or incompetence is found to be the cause, then a hefty fine and perhaps even prison will be the result....In any case, the system works...

Is it OK to purchase a book? Why not purchase an essay to read?

We understand how many of these essays are being used, but you could plagiarize an on-line book just the same. Drawing the line isn't easy.

I would strongly argue there is a large difference.

Is it fair for someone to get a qualification they did not work for and hence deserve. How would you like to work for someone like that, or lose your job to someone that did.

How about posting answers on CR4 to that persons questions so they can fake and stumble their way through a job they are not qualified to do. How many times have we seen that on CR4.

I have been in that position...and the person that faked/cheated their way into that position soon realized that they had to follow my lead, and ended up working for me...cheating your way in to a leadership position doesn't automatically give you the qualifications and knowledge to do the job....The person with the most knowledge becomes the de facto leader...

I've worked for poor leaders and I've worked for great leaders. I'm not really sure it matters whether the poor leaders cheated to get there or not. They were poor leaders and ultimately they Peter Principled themselves out of the workplace or into a dead-end job.

Some of the great leaders I worked for went on to great success. It was no surprise to me.

The honest thing to do is to document where you get information from when possible, and not pass it off as your own. There is an unlimited amount of information available on the web, but fortunately, it's not difficult to search for matching text copied by a plagiarist.

As far as I know, they watch and check the level of plagiarism with special programs, but it is impossible to say for sure, it all individually depends on the service that deals with writing your paper. Plus, I heard from friends that if you take the price, it does not come out very expensive.

Yes, I agree with you that you need to write on your own.

If you turn in someone else's paper as your own, that's cheating, and you will be possibly expelled from school....is it worth the risk? If you have not learned the subject well enough to write your own paper in your own words, then you have failed...cheating will only make it worse, because not only have you failed, but now you've cheated as well....If you can't handle the academic load you are carrying, then lighten the load, drop some courses, get some tutoring, talk to your guidance counselor or student adviser...
