That's funny but thankfully it's not tragic. I mean the plane clearly had enough fuel to reach the wrong destination. A serious review of the flight plan coordination is needed here. I wonder if the air traffic controllers identify a plane's destination just by taking the pilot's word for it?

Did the luggage/cargo make it to Dusseldorf without going to Edinburgh?

I don't think you can take off without filing a flight plan, or you shouldn't, the pilot was obviously given the wrong assignment....I don't see how you can blame the pilot here, there must be some sort of flight coordinator that routes these planes....He's the one who screwed up seems to me....

Agreed, the pilot's flight plan was to go to Edinborough while the passengers and stewards expected to land in Dusseldorf. This begs the question, were flight plans accidentally duplicated or swapped?

I don't think any words are necessary....

The pilot didn't notice there was no English Channel and the compass didn't indicate 'E'?

Hard to believe that none of the passengers realised that they hadn't crossed the channel.

Even if they did notice the lack of open water, what could they do about it?

One of the passengers was interviewed on the UK news & said he thought that they seemed to be over land for a long time but assumed that the pilot knew what he was doing.

To assume someone knows what they're doing is always a risky assumption.

As Engineers and Scientists you all should know that!

Maybe the pilot was related to Rudolph Hess.

I suspect AGW is to blame somehow. S.M.
