Coming from a hands on mechanics background I can do my own repairs and maintenance of diesel powered tree stump grinders. For those unfamiliar, these machines while basic in design they are truly "at the coal face" with an intense hostile gritty environment. As a consequence, bearing life is comparatively short with say those used with conveyor belts. OEM (Rexnord-Link Belt PB22423H spherical roller pillow blocks are used to support the grinders cutter wheel shaft (1-7/16") are great bearings designed with a threaded screw in collar to take up excessive play owing to fair roller/race wear. This allows a longer service life than non adjustable bearings. Cutter wheels on these stump grinders are subjected to high vibration, high shock loads, in an extreme gritty environment. My issue is with replacement costing. I have unsuccessfully been searching for an alternative (lower cost) bearing with the same wear compensation adjustment. It looks to me like Rexnord- Link Belt has cornered its market regarding this particular feature, and is charging a high replacement price as a consequence. My question Is, has anyone out there an awareness of a comparable pillow block with this feature, Here in rip-off U.K. I have received quotes ranging $306 - $356+ (£233 - £276+) What I'd really, REALLY like is to find a supplier willing to take an order for nine replacement bearing kits to rebuild my existing worn out Link Belt pillow blocks, but here in the UK they want to open up a vein with an order only for mounted units. Nobody believes in rebuilt bearings using genuine parts.
