Logo Generator

10/14/2007 10:21 PM

im doing a logo, but this logo must be consist of lines only.

This logo consists of lines. The trick is that the logo is formed by a void of the lines. Is there any generator for this...(its like negative film)? for example the logo that i want is formed by the void of the lines. thanks

Great idea.

Some great art is generated when constraints are placed on it's creation. (nothing worse than being given a blank canvas and no brief at all.)

How best to generate it!??

Pencil and paper is the first step........or a V simple line drawing program like paint.

If you are trying to create it artificailly you need to get into playing with software...the good old days of basic were ideal for this sort of thing....dunno if there is anything as quick and simple out there now...? (And Mr Gates sells this as 'progress'..)

Or have I missunderstood and are you talking about 'reproducing' the logo rather than 'creating' it?

(tricky chap language...never got the hang of it!)

Del

I can't provide an immediate answer, but you seem to be looking for something similar to the Rubin vase effect. The phrase may help you along the right track.

I have used the special effects available in editor packages like Corel draw to engrave photos (faces) onto flat sheets with a CNC machine.

You will have to play around with grey scales, embossing, line drawings, dithering etc. until you find the most acceptable result.

If what you refer to is line-raster, then it was indeed used in "old-school" manual graphics, using film-raster photographic effect.

It was then called "Line-Raster", and was indeed used for affecting the creation of some logo works.

Try approaching one of those photo-litho plate-making labs (there are still some active ones around. There you'll be able to apply the effect to your already made logo design, provided it contains some gray-scale values.

Using PC graphics, I'm told this effect is obtainable with Macromedia "Freehand" as one of the "Fill" Function. It is a filter applied to a gray-scale image, or to a line-image with some black and white detail.

Let me get back on this, later, as more specific reference on this is available.

If what you refer to is filling the logo outline (Coutures), then you may want to consider the use of the "Trace" and "Fill" effects available in "Corel Draw"

FreeHand:

Object >/ Fill >/ Pattern/ ... (Choose your required pattern)

(To see the effect on the monitor, choose in preferences, to see through the "fill" mask)

If you double click on a jpeg image (????.jpg) do you get Microsoft photo editor? Then try ----- Effects-----Negative...----

Is this what you mean?

Hi Jaycdc,

There are many ways to do this with either Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.

Probably the easiest way is using "angled strokes" or "cross hatch" filters in Photoshop, but "under-painting" or "water paper " may be suitable depending on the effect you are looking for. Problem is, you end up with a raster image.

The best way to do it is to create a vector image with illustrator. First, create a hatched surface using lines & blend tool, then drop your logo on top as a clipping mask - hey presto, job done.

Are you saying three's some big difficulty in doing this Del ? Surely not. I've only just scanned this thread, but it sounds like as Yuval said - a case of masking etc. Heck, I've never tried doing this, but it doesn't sound that bad. I think I may be missing the question here, but it sounds just like outlining letters - the sort of thing paint could do ? I'm not sure, and haven't the interest to test out, but I'd be interested to see what others propose. Is this problem more complicated than it seems ?

I just re-read the initial post.

Maybe I'm guilty of overthink and the entire thing is a bit of a non problem.

Wateva.. I'm off to the shed later when my son is giving a guitar leson..see if I can make a battery... I must have more GOOZ cards.. I'm addicted to 'em (maybe Hendrick puts something in the ink?)

Oh Del, don't be fooled by that cutesy little beard. The cute blondish mane won't be so attractive when it clamps it's head on you next Saturday. ' Wah.. but he came to kiss me '

As a graphic artist I deal with logo construction regularly. Most logos are affixed to different sized artilces, i.e. coffee cups to billboards, only a vector image will meet that requirement. Therefore I suggest the use of Abobe Illustrator.

Re: Logo Generator

I agree you need vector graphics.

I did my logo with marker on paper

I took a photograph of it (use strong daylight to get nice white surface around logo).

I cleaned the white around the logo with MS Paint a bit.

I imported the logo in Incscape (a very nice free and open source software, go to www.incscape.org and see tutorials)

I generated a contour, which I then smoothened and adapted to my likings.

the fileformat to generate is SVG which stands for scalable vector graphics. Very tiny files for very high quality images.

Thanks Randall. It's one of my 'pet annoyances' when stuff is located in different threads. It's certain to happen just by way of how discussion moves on and evolves, but it's great when somebody takes the time to cross-link threads. Many times I've missed information by not cross checking, and I've also posted questions without realizing similar already exists. Top dollar respect to you for taking the time to help integrate threads. The two threads aren't quite the same, but they both contain stuff which may be of similar interest in general.
