What material should I use to make a thick bleach of sodium hypochlorite?

What percentage of compounds should be?

How thick is "thick"? How high is up?

You need to be careful about mixing bleach with just any chemical. It may react and release noxious gas.

For cleaning grout on a tiled wall, the bleach doesn't stay in place long enough to work. I have seen recommended mixing bleach with baking soda to thicken it. Another possibility is mixing it with corn starch.

Hope this helps.

BE VERY CAREFUL DOING THIS!!!!

For a kitchen concoction this is actually fine, but you have to be VERY CERTAIN to only use baking soda, NOT baking powder. Most baking powders would actually be fine, but some contain ammonium bicarbonate which will react with the hypochlorite to create lethally toxic gas.

I think cellulose compounds break down and dilute the whitening solution.

thanks

Never mix bleach with anything containing ammonia.Since most household chemicals do not list all ingredient, avoid them at all cost.

As someone else replied, corn starch is good.Just add the quantity needed to get the desired thickness.

A thick paint thinner can also be made by adding cornstarch to paint thinner or lacquer thinner.

Likewise with rust remover.

Try this.

Sheesh! Not even mentioning quantities! Where on earth would a forum start (rhetorical question - NNTR)?

Just to be pedantic- SLES will not thicken bleach, but the excess NaOH in bleach will thicken SLES up to a certain point, when the viscosity will begin to drop again.
