It's nature's way of curing planets infected with biological growth. Planets in regions where water is in liquid form are particularly susceptible to this infection.

Has anyone predicted it's return position reference the Earth on it's next time around?

I am sure the Earth and moon were close enough to influence it's initial orbit,deflecting it somewhat.

A phrase I have never understood is"Near Miss".

It was really a "Near Hit"

What could we have done if it was detected? Not enough time to do anything.In that case,don't tell the public until it is passed;avoid panic."Keep calm and carry on". A real BOHICA moment,'cause it will be back.
