Oh Baby, Baby.......

08/12/2019 8:26 PM

I'm certain this has gone on since the beginning of humans......

After many years completing our children, and now grandchildren reaching 10years old plus. We are surprised with a new (potential) grand-daughter, paternity test pending......

Glad to assist, but something I forgot about years ago - Daddy (Gr'pa) can never quite calm down a baby like a momma (or Gr'ma)

There must be a gene or something in the baby to accept a mother's touch rather than a man's? Motherly instinct over the male??

I'm no forensic anthropologist, but I still see something!!!!

Well, I'm not quite sure what to say, other than the gender that cares for the baby is the one the baby cries for when in distress, because he/she usually knows what to do....If you feed burp bathe change the diapers and spend time with the baby, you get to know the routine, and when the baby is in distress you know it's usually time for something, feeding, change of diaper, sleep, water juice, I want that thing, I'm afraid of that thing, I want to get up and run around, I'm frustrated, my gums ache, etc...A baby can't talk so it relies on you knowing what it's thinking, through sound and gesture...Once you learn that language the baby feels safe with you...The mother is usually the one that fills this role, at least if she's not working...anyway I guess congratulations would be premature at this point but I'll take the plunge anyway....congrat's

LOL Those babies look exhausted, like they haven't slept for days. Imagine the parents' relief.

The thing about infants is their immature digestive system. There's an art to massaging or patting the back to relieve that. My guess the upside down position and support takes pressure off the digestive issue. And of course every kid loves to fly... it feels amazing! and what a view.

I don't think it matters if parent/grandparent is male or female. You have to be very gentle, is the main thing. The howler has a problem, so being focused helps - if what you're doing isn't helping, change it up gently until relief is obtained. All the shaking/rocking movements need to be very gentle, is a key though, since shaking hard can actually cause damage ("shaken baby syndrome")

Several close friends of mine had babies in the last couple of years... I found I had forgotten everything! I ever knew about baby handling, pretty much.
