It's natural to assume that the meteor is traveling at about 90 degrees to the line of sight. It may well be traveling toward (or away from) the observer so that the part seen breaking off may be continuing in about the same direction.

In other words, the main part of the meteor may be traveling toward the observer and to his left, and the other part is traveling toward the observer and to his right. The angle that the two parts are actually diverging may not be that great. It's just a trick of perspective.

It's so unusual when things split off in other directions..

Still pretty spectacular given performance and location.

Interesting is right. Unless we are seeing some sort of angular distortion or one of those "deep fake" videos, (if you haven't seen them look them up, scary stuff) what is filmed is not possible without some sort of propulsion. Whether thrust on the smaller object or some sort of launch capability on the bigger one but I saw no evidence of a "forced" ejection, poof, matter stream, trail.

The video that comes up after it is also interesting. I didn't know you would want to do that.

The truth is it’s an alien craft burning up in the atmosphere , the ejected item is an escape pod.

The Navy blue book answer is “weather balloon”

The trump interpretation is “fake news paid for by the clintons”

Finally an answer we can all agree on.

Way to get down to brass tacks.
