To all of you folks in the path of Dorian, you have my prayers.

If prayer were effective, there wouldn't be such things as hurricane deaths and damage.

Really?? Hurricanes are giant pumps. They move tons of water and stir the atmosphere. Without them, Gaia would be a far less hospitable place

How does that pertain to what I said, other than maybe to reinforce it a little?

Tapering off, really lucked out on this one, just skimming the coast...I expect massive beach erosion though so we need to get the dredging company back on the job...only a few thousand lost power, mine never flickered....The Bahamas really took all this massive storm had to give, it's only a shadow of what it was...

The threat from this hurricane is compounded by it's slow movement...

As an engineering forum perhaps we should stick to helpful technical advice rather than the inanities of platitudes and invocations of sky fairies. That said not sure Solar Eagle needs any practical advice from me given that hurricane force winds have hit my home country once in my lifetime and Korea gets the the wet tail end of a Typhoon maybe twice a year

On one hand that does make good sense.

On the other hand the CR4 community tends to keep members who share a little of themselves and sometimes chatter back and forth between on-line friends. We seem to have lost quite a few people with good technical skills and it seems like a lot of the "lost" never chattered and became "us".

Since we are "out of bounds" I'll add that I was very grateful that during the dusk to post-midnight hours it was about 90 to 100 miles off shore. The forecast earlier had me worried that I would not have a house to return to. If it were 10 miles closer I might have had a mess to clean up but by chance I returned from evacuation to find my yard and all my potted plants nicely watered.

Potted plants nicely watered.... That is a best outcome for sure.

We're not in the cone, thankfully even at Cat 1. But I expect potted plants to be watered and probably rolled around the yard anyway.

The sight of the Bahamas was devastating. Cat 5 is just total destruction, afaict.
