Do You Know the FDS9435A Chip? Can This Chip be Directly Controlled by FPGA?

11/06/2019 2:30 AM

Recently I want to use FDS9435A chip to control the power supply, but the data sheet does not seem to be very detailed. Would you like to ask if this chip can be directly controlled by FPGA? Still need to add a drive?

Like Solar Eagle said go directly to ON Semiconductor to get all the available information for that MOSFET.

https://www.onsemi.com/pub/Collateral/FDS9435A-D.PDF

What you will find in the above datasheet is the on-resistance as a function of Gate to Source Voltage.

The short answer is no, unless the FPGA can drive at least a 5 volt output you will need an external FET driver to switch the FET you want to use. See the graph below.

Of course, you could also choose a logic-level MOSFET that can turn on with a much lower gate-to-source voltage.

Good luck with your quest.

The fets input capacitance is low which is good.

The fets threshold voltage however is 3V.

The threshold voltage indicates the minimum voltage required to fill the channel under the fet gate and turn it on. This number can change from fet to fet and lot to lot of fets.

Assuming a 3.3V FPGA IO, this is marginal at best for good performance.
