Cover Block Preparation

Dear sirs,

How can we make standard cover block to be used for say 5 cm concreting? We made one with 1:4 cement/sand but it got crushed.

Well first you need the proper type of cement, and you need probably a 50/50 mix of cement to sand, and some ~3/8" aggregate and possibly some superplasticizer...

Insufficient information.How much weight?Area of contact?Anything can be crushed.

For this sort of cover block I always make the following mixture 3 gravel of a size suitable for the thickness of the cover, 2 river sand, 1 cement. Preferably the cement is good Portland cement not the stuff loaded with fly ash and include mesh in the cover.

Keep the cover moist for at least 7 days to slow the curing and prevent cracking. When cured correctly this will form a waterproof high strength concrete.

More cement can be added in moderation to increase the MPa of the concrete and go easy on the water because a sloppy wet mix will have a lower compressive strength.
