I have to agree with that...

it’s seems such an elegant place for not much people traffic... but the train seems to have a lot of miles on it.

makes one wonder, is this all a facade with poor infrastructure.

As far as the distractors,... I look at your posts as an observation, do you feel like the guy that’s circled?

distractors?,...Lol...

From the Cambridge Dictionary:

detractor noun [ C ] UK /dɪˈtræk.tər/ US /dɪˈtræk.tɚ/ someone who criticizes something or someone, often unfairly: His detractors claim that his fierce temper makes him unsuitable for leadership.

{I like to vary my reference sources from time to time.}

Criticizing the condition of the train and the cost of the station is what a detractor says.

You really shouldn't take things so personally.

Again, from the Cambridge dictionary:

criticize verb (UK usually criticise) UK /ˈkrɪt.ɪ.saɪz/ US /ˈkrɪt̬.ɪ.saɪz/ B2 [ I, T often passive ] to express disapproval of someone or something: The government is being widely criticized in the media for failing to limit air pollution. We'll get nowhere if all you can do is criticize.

You disapproved in the age of the train.

Do you need an explanation in the meaning of the word, "disapproved"?

So you did disapprove the train. That makes you a detractor with this criticism of the train's condition.

Not according to Cambridge.

According to your Wikipedia link:

"Detraction differs from the sin of calumny and the civil wrong of defamation, which generally involve false accusations rather than unflattering truths."

Last I heard, truth contains merit.

Context-

If the critique is spot on.. it's a statement of the obvious.

Nobody's taken away from the value of the content.

Especially if the content is overstated in the first place.

If you presented us cupcakes with flies on top. The flies would detract from the joy of getting a couple of nice cupcakes.

My saying. Nice cupcakes, but flies on top are kinda gross..

That's not a negative statement taking away from the cupcake.

..if the cupcakes had no flies and I said .. thanks, but you're trying to make me fat?

Then I would be a detractor.

...what's the definition of a negative nelly.?

I don't get it. Why are you so afraid or embarrassed about being identified as a detractor? I agree that your and SE's detractions are accurate. But they are also negative and since the labor and money are not yours they are also unfair.

Its hardly secret - even if photography was banned.

The stations are quite wonderful and although the trains look and are a bit old they are quite comfortable enough for the journey time and the ridiculously low prices (I forget exactly but its just not worth trying to jump the barrier especially at my age)

The decor does have similarities with Moscow & St Petersburg a definite nod to Communist ethos but in Tashkent a lot of the Soviet central Asia / Muslim vibe too

Re: Uzbekistan's Secret Underground

Having been built from 1971 to 1977, it was during which Uzbekistan was still part of the former Soviet Union. Hence the soviet styling, etc. Planned, funded, designed, etc., by the U.S.S.R., during the''Cold War'', it was understandably built as bomb shelter, as well.

After the Berlin Wall ''fell'' in 1991, many of the stations were (re-christened?) with more preferable, non-soviet names. The rail cars will eventually be changed as well.

It must be quite the tourist attraction, even if only for it's dramatic murals, etc....

I thought that wrenchtwirler posted a very interesting, and informative piece that stood alone, without the comments to which I referred.

What did those comments add? Old cars? Too expensive? That detracts from the total post. "Always with the negative waves, Moriarty," comes to mind from Kelly's Heroes.

SE said, "I disapproved of the condition, not the age of the train..." Was that one and a quarter pictures of different cars is enough for you to determine ANYTHING about the condition of cars.

Imagine you saw an ad in the paper that said "horse for sale $500" You like the price and went to see the horse. upon arrival you notice the horse is missing a leg.

Do you state the obvious that the horse is missing a leg which is an obvious detractor.

Or do you smile and pay the agreed price, and load your 3 legged horse into the trailer and take the high road?

For bonus points does telling the current owner of the horse that the horse only has 3 legs and you don't need a horse with 3 legs make you a detractor?

Or is it the leg that is the detractor?

Are both you and the leg the detractor?

I'd feel much better if you just quit trying to defend your indefensible position.

You two need to just get over yourselves and not try to pretend that everything you said is right, or positive.

Again, SE "Very elegant...but the trains look like they could use an upgrade..."

You, ".this is a 200 Million dollar PLUS station upgrade. Not very elegant, but at least it's over the top expensive! Stop the insanity"

You are detractors in this instance, again, get over yourselves!

Lyn,

Sorry that my gripe comes across as more than a matter of interest to me. I could care less about defending an indefensible position.

I'm a tax payer and use that 200 million+ dollar station.

I used to live over there and use that station daily to get downtown.

I did some rough math in the day and it will never be covered by fares ever.

This is how public transportation operates and to me that model is as useful as a 3 legged horse.

If you visit these stations you don't see the money that went into them. I know construction and estimation pretty well.

How many mansions in the suburbs were funded around the tidy profits of this one station? Not one.. no way.

...that's being a detractor. I agree

..maybe best to look the other way and cast no stones

..peace

Enjoy your weekend
