Tiny Positive Displacement Pump

11/19/2019 3:32 PM

I've been trying to source a miniature hydraulic gear pump with no luck. I know somebody makes it because I had one on my desk last week. It was 35mm long including the barbed stubs, pump was 12mm round and plastic, motor 10mm round and 5VDC. I expect to pay <$10 each since the diaphragm pumps we've been using are $3.50. Just needs to be similar in size as it will be in a handheld device.

Anyone have suggestions for what search terms or search engine might work or who could help me with sourcing this?

I don't see anything at Clark that's close enough. Sent they an email, received no response. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Googled micro hydraulic pump and looked at images rather than companies first.

A good start.

I don't know if this will help but the pump in your picture nr.59040 appears to be used in a small fog machine called the "tiny S" made by a German company called Look Solutions.

Yes, that's correct, we resell the Tiny S. It's a compromise, not a perfect solution. We're trying to develop a better tool for our customers. I'm always a little nervous about asking a vendor where they get a component inside their product. I've been told to pound sand before and wondered, Is there is a better, more tactful way to get the info I need?

The tag says Micropump but Micropump doesn't recognize it.

I wouldn't assume it's an off-the-shelf part, it might be a proprietary exclusive part..It seems to me any pump that small you find will be built for a specific application...

Even so, when I ask them their response ought to be, "Yeah we make something similar for another customer. We can make you a custom pump too." I mean, I sure would. We are a small company with not a lot of volume and that is a constant problem.

Plenty of miniature pumps on google, but you did not specify the pressure and volume of the pump.

In case you want to make your own fog solution, try this:

Make fog fluid by mixing distilled water and vegetable glycerine. The total glycerine concentration should be between 15 to 30 percent.More glycerine gives denser fog.

Stay away from glycol solutions,as they can be deadly.

Yup, We're doing veg glycerin 80% - water 20% which is about 15cps viscosity. Pressure and volume is PWM controlled but minimum is 20"WC and 2ml/minute.

Have you considered a peristaltic pump, something like the Welco WPM.

Maybe check out the pump in a waterpik®? (Sorry I can't render the 3 dots over the i.)

Agreed. Now that we've finally seen the OP's needs in a belated post, the Waterpik® idea is definite overkill.

sorry guys, diaphragm pumps are not positive displacement. When enough back pressure is applied, they simply stop pumping and that will not work. A hydraulic pump will stall the motor before it stops pumping. That's what I needed but that was a while ago though and we've found an off-the-shelf smoke generator that works quite well.
