10/23/2007 1:07 PM

Just to make a quick estimate for a business, I need the prices of keys for ring nuts.

1 key for ring nuts Nr. 68 mm
1 key for ring nuts Nr. 75 mm

Give me the EXW price anywhere.

This is urgent.

Is this what you are looking for?

I Know this as a castle nut and cotter key or cotter pin.

Very cheap (pennies)

The ring nut is the nut showed in the picture. Usually there is used a carpenter's hammer to screw it, but there exist special keys that my supplier asked me to use.

Here in Montevideo only one person knew what I was talking about

I need the key, not the nuts.

The only thing I could find was this:

or these:

and no mention of any key. (searched on McMaster-Carr)

I've always used a screwdriver or pry bar to tighten these. I would think that the supplier of the nuts should know about any special key, and I can't imagine the key costing more than $US 10 or 20.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

The drawings were taken from some brochures I got searching in the internet for "tuerca de argolla". The machine I will be working with is a backhoe excavator.

If it's that urgent you could make your own while you wait for the stock items to come in. If you find a couple of old sockets having the right ID/OD and then file or grind them down to suit your ring nuts.

Surely any piece of round steel bar that will fit the ring would do the job?

What about a 'pipefitter's carrot', being a tapered conical metal bar that can be used to lever the bolt holes in adjacent flanges into line? Wouldn't that do?
