Polyester resin based composite material

10/23/2007 3:04 PM

I wish to know some details about the Polester resin and additives to be used for composite laminates reinforced with synthetic fabric. I understand they are better than phenolic laminates with better compressive strength, load bearing capability and low water swell. It would be of help even if you can let me know the books / links / websites for reference. I wish to try out these laminates for under water application.

Try the link on the Journal on: Fibre Chemistry

You may find some relevant information.

Contact the major polyester suppliers and ask for specific literature, physical test data for finished product resin and starting formulations for the materials you want to make or use. I assume flexability will be important. Fabric hand? Fire/flame resistance?

Dear Mr. Ramani,

Thanks for your information which was useful.

Does the resin manufacturer or supplier generally provide the details of the properties of the cured resin that can be achieved by adding certain percentage of catalyst and accelerator, or it is to be tried by me on trial and error basis?

Hello

All major manufacturers would have full details on basic resin, methods of usage, technical data on hazards, end properties after curing... and you may also get tips on end products, if you ask for

Where do you stay? That would help in presenting a clearer picture

Dear Mr. Ramani,

I have managed to get some polyester resin sample and the details from a resin supplier. But, the manufacturer's details are limited to properties of only resin after curing. I am now working on the laminates to achieve the required properties.
