Thanksgiving Video: Storm of the Century

12/03/2019 6:41 PM

I found this historical video which should help us all be thankful that we have it better than they did. This takes place mostly in Wyoming in 1949. Although I was alive then, fortunately I lived somewhere else. We had about 16" of snow here a few days ago. I shoveled some more today. This video puts my woes to shame.

Interesting. It shows how hardy we used to be.

The admonishment was unnecessary.

The big snow drifts and frozen trains and cattle were quite astonishing. Also people being stranded for 9 weeks I think. It really puts our complaints in perspective.

It wasn't admonishment, it was a warning, and probably the last time I will do it.

Oh it happened in Ohio too! we got 20-30" of snow in NE Ohio. Everyone on the street helped clear it, they opened the manhole covers and shoveled snow into the storm drains which melted and took it away. I imagine Buffalo, NY was hit worse as they usually get the full brunt of lake effect snow. I am too young to have experienced this one. the worse I have seen was the blizzard of 78' which wiped out the quail and pheasant populations (as well as others I am sure) here which have never returned.
