Can someone tell me How manny pounds can be lifted when a vacuum of 10'' is applied to a 3'' vacuum cup? Thanks

it is a question on my homework that reads; How manny pounds can be lifted when a vacuum of 10'' is applied to a 3'' vacuum cup? It gives a formula ; 1''=0.491 psi

... so 10" = 4.91 psi (pounds per square inch).

Assuming the cup is 3" diameter, area is ∏ * 1.52 = 7.07 in2

So you can lift 4.91 x 7.07 = 34.7 lb.

OK?

You won't be allowed to use CR4 in an exam - I suggest you ask your teach. to explain what it all means, so next time you can do it for yourself. It ain't rocket science.

The reader will probably qualify this as 10" of mercury column.

10" of water gauge is a totally different measurement!
