There will be two coil operated devices fitted to the Circuit breaker with some mechanical linkage one is called shunt trip coil assembly and the other one is called under voltage coil assembly.

The under voltage coil assembly will get actuated only when voltage is made available to it.this will permit the breaker to close. If there is no voltage to the coil the breaker can not be on.This coil is continuous rated.

The shun trip coil assembly also will be actuated when the voltage made available.this coil will actuate a link and trip the breaker.

Normally in Electrical system for tripping the breakers shunt trip coils are used. These coils are short time rated.

For more details, please refer to any of the Breaker Manuals.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Shunt Trip : there are two voltage system ie DC and AC. Trip the Breaker soon as after voltage is applied, 70% to 110% of rated voltage. After reset, Breaker can be turned ON again.

Undervoltage : Also AC or DC. Breaker will open when voltage applied fall to ≤ 70% of rated voltage. When voltage is at least 85% of rated voltage, closing the breaker will be possible. Closing the Breaker is impossible when voltage is ≤ 35% of rated voltage.
