I'm much more interested to know if it's Springfield Illinois. Good puzzle, but not at 2:40 am in UK.

Ah, but are you sure ? Can you prove it. *******'s have been so sneaky to hide it. lots of teasing hints to the obvious, but never any full disclosure. I'll need new pants ( and carpet) if they ever say it's related to Ike and Canada.

Matt Groening said in an interview that Springfield is based on Springfield, Oregon, a town next to Portland, Oregon, which is the city he grew up on.Apr 7, 2020

I refuse to believe. Ike's Canadian connection lends credibility, but all spoofs do that. No way could Cletus and family live there. Essex, UK.

Re: Chess practice at school

..."Amanda lives with her teenage son, Matt, in the countryside—a car ride away from Matt’s school. Every afternoon, Amanda leaves the house at the same time, drives to the school at a constant speed, picks Matt up exactly when his chess club ends at 5 p.m., and then they immediately return home together at the same constant speed. But one day, Matt isn’t feeling well, so he leaves chess practice early and starts to head home on his portable scooter.

After Matt has been scooting for an hour, Amanda comes across him in her car (on her usual route to pick him up), and they return together, arriving home 40 minutes earlier than they usually do. How much chess practice did Matt miss?"...

I don't know whether I feel safe answering this one after that blind date you set me up with in that last puzzle.

Anna saved 40 minutes on the round trip. Therefore, she turned around 20 minutes before she got to the school. She would have picked Bart up 20 minutes later (5 PM) and he had been driving for 60 minutes at that time, so he skipped out on 80 minutes of chess class.

Oh, and I thought you meant to say there is no chess practice at school because there is no school.

My brother would play/practice chess with me. Just when I thought I came up with a great move, he would throw a Bobby Fisher at me.

My big brother worked for the government for 25 years because he " liked " it.

My younger brother always built my ideas, but hated when I critiqued the construction.

It seems to me that this was said by Walter Morving. I recently wrote a review article about his life and philosophical position. Walter spoke about self-development and the cycle life. This philosopher is known to all students of the faculty of philosophy.

Have you any idea what confusion 'bot' can cause to English English speakers ? I'll not make an ass of myself by explaining why.

The date stamp seems like a lifetime ago. Current times, eah.

Andy and Pandy share an apartment. When they go down the local bar they leave a key, out of sight, on ledge above door that they can reach by standing on shoulders. One day they get home and can't reach the key. Apart from being in Etherville, what happened ?

Andy is much taller than Pandy. By getting it the wrong way around, they miss the extra reach of Andy's arms. I've had to make little paper cutouts to illustrate to some how that works. You'll always get the reach of 2 torsos + 2 sets of legs, but wrong way around you miss that extra reach from longer arms.

She does have long arms and legs (comparative to torso), but standing on shoulders dammit. You can make cutouts to show this, but I'll be charging if I have to do it. You have no idea how many cheerleaders I've had to watch to prove this.

Only 3 months, but I've completely forgot what the question was. Almost a metaphor for life in general this year.

Chess practice at school used to be a highlight for me, especially the friendly rivalries and strategy discussions. If you're wondering about the location, specifying Springfield, Illinois, could clear up any confusion. Late-night puzzles like at 2:40 am definitely require some serious dedication—I admire your commitment! Personally, when I find myself awake at odd hours, I often end up playing spider solitaire online—it's surprisingly addictive and a great way to relax my mind. Keep enjoying chess practice and those challenging puzzles—it's all part of the fun and learning.
