Happy Hallowe'en, CR4!

10/31/2007 10:21 PM

Figure 1: Typical Engineer's first stab at designing an ordinary Jack O' Lantern.

Much simpler if you just let kids do it themselves, with generally superior results.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haloween

There is an increasing tendency for the occasion to become corrupted by a north American activity called Trick-or-treat, with antisocial behaviour becoming more prevalent over time. Although there is an entry in Wiki about this as well, the veracity of the article is open to question as certain aspects of it differ in the UK from elsewhere.

I guess from a Brit any change in their tradition would be considered corruption. Thats why we put them out.

Here Halloween has been mostly about are children. A celebration of the harvest. We take a night to dress up and go door to door. Where the host presents treats to the children on the assumed fear of a trick upon them.

There will all ways be those few that will ruin some good clean fun.

Yeah, like me and my little brother. Back in the days when kids used paper grocery bags to collect their candy, my brother and I would drop an ice cube in along with the candy.
