What's Going On in Africa?

07/06/2020 3:32 PM

This shot is where Angola, Botswana and Namibia converge.

The striations make no sense?

Without a lot more details (the CR4 image decimation is well known) I can only guess about what you have presented, so I'll guess. I suspect you are seeing a mosaic effect of multiple satellite scans and a living terrain. The difference between each scan might be a simple as the angle of the sun (long versus short shadows) or even before and after a rain.

What did you expect to see from free satellite images?

Can you post a link,... I can see pattern striations,... but not highly defined,

If I had to make a guess,... I’d say it’s the weather,... (lack of rain Possible)

OK. I can now see some details and can manipulate the view with Google Earth. It appears that the bright and dark "lines" are differences in vegetation of this savanna plain. My next guess is the low vegetation regions would normally be grassland with very little deep rooting trees due to a shallow topsoil but these images are taken during a drought.

Then again, it could be aliens.

I reckon you are on the right track here. My guess is that you get areas with long-standing shallow dunes formed by wind, where the valleys will retain more water and have more vegetation as opposed to the drier peaks. A cross-section of elevation shows that there are indeed little valleys and peaks (see figure - vertical scale levels are 1036, 1030 & 1024 m elevation respectively over a distance of 19.4 km). Good speculation, I reckon

In Northeast Wisconsin (Peninsula) where the soil is shallow, in hay field during a drought you can see the rock crevices (part of the Niagara Escarpment) throughout the fields.

Similar to the green patches in the picture below. But it would be throughout. The difference is there is really no pattern.

Still not enough data; nice to get rainfall from the past 10 years as well as pictures.

There is no doubt that Euro-centrism did despicable things to South Africa and their neighboring regions. But you haven't connected that history to those images. Do you care to elaborate?

Given the size of the area affected, I can't reasonably attach any history.

Made by who, when, and why is what I'm trying to figure out.

Sorry but my "Euro-centrism" reference was to a now apparently deleted comment. The deleted comment, while politically oriented, was not offensive so I'm surprised it was deleted.

I visited with my buddy Giorgio Tsoukalos about this very interesting phenomenon.

While not positive, he is pretty sure it is the work of aliens.

Perhaps a VR inspection will yield an unseen clue.

I haven't a set of VR equipment, but for anyone who has some:

Ok, so no aliens, I'm afraid. Linear dunes as I suspected in an earlier post - see the link Linear dunes of the Caprivi Strip. (The features shown by JE continues southward through the Caprivi Strip into Botswana.) I quote:

A study published in 2000 sampled dunes throughout the Caprivi region and found that they likely formed under arid conditions between roughly 60,000 and 20,000 years ago. A study in 2003 concluded that dune construction may have been especially pronounced between 36,000 and 28,000 years ago. After the dunes formed, conditions in the Caprivi Strip moistened enough for the dunes to support vegetation—woodlands on the dune ridges, and grasses and shrubs in the valleys between.

Indeed good job. I'm not at the computer now but a couple days ago I looked at the dunes along the coastline to the Southwest and you can see the same size and shape patterns with exposed Dunes over a large expanse. I will post a picture later..

Pretty awesome. A glitch in nature. It's all fractals

Here's what's really going on in Africa....

..."Slavery may seem like a relic of history. But according to the U.N.’s International Labor Organization (ILO), there are more than three times as many people in forced servitude today as were captured and sold during the 350-year span of the transatlantic slave trade. What the ILO calls “the new slavery” takes in 25 million people in debt bondage and 15 million in forced marriage. As an illicit industry, it is one of the world’s most lucrative, earning criminal networks $150 billion a year, just behind drug smuggling and weapons trafficking. “Modern slavery is far and away more profitable now than at any point in human history,” says Siddharth Kara, an economist at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy."...

Re: What's Going On in Africa?

The top image is mostly of the Okavango delta which is in Botswana. More to the top is the Caprivi strip which is part of Namibia and on top is Angola where it rains more than 2100 mm.

The border with Zambia is more to the right.

The faint or dry river in the image is because it was taken inn the dry season.

The area also have compression fault lines which causes the flow of water to end abruptly (to the south east of the swamps.) this water later appear as artesian wells in the lower elevations of Namibia.

The bottom image is permanent sand dunes – the area is rather arid.

Re: What's Going On in Africa?

+

Let me elaborate

Much of the area was a inland sea long ago but the water broke through at the Fish river in the South West and possibly the Kunene on the border of Namibia and Angola. On a tributary to or from the Etosha pan the water is dammed in two directions.

The area must have been a forest once as can be seen from the coal deposits. ;

Politically : England and Germany traded the harbour of Zanzibar and other land for the Caprivi strip and other in1890 , the motivation for Von Caprivi , the administrator of Namibia , was access to the water of the Zambezi. The court gave some land back to Botswana in 1999. At the end of WWII the returning allied soldiers were rewarded with land in the arid North West province , South of Botswana , The condition was that they must find water and be able to make a living. Some failed but many survive.

Permanent dunes : The natural soil in that parts are silicon sand and weathered carbonate rock containing some Calcium Magnesium and other stuff. To the West and South a lot of Iron rich Carbonate rock existed which were oxidised and turned red. This also resulted in flaky and lighter particles which are transported and deposited in dune by the prevailing winds.

The flaky red soil and and the sand does not mix and down south red dunes on the white soil is visible.

The flaky red soil (Clay) retain more moisture than the sand and more vegetation {Shrubs} grow on duns while grasses grow in the valleys. Rain is not the only source of water – at night a mist is blown in from the West which then condensate on the leaves and drop to the flaky soil.

The red soil also contain some Uranium , Cobalt , Lithium etc. In 1957 I visited a farm where the owner found water but the water was poisonous. (Birds that drank the water instantly died).

Hunters – In 1965 some big game hunters were were present in the Maun area. One of them was Mr Goodchild (maybe not that good because his house was full of animal skins, horns , Elephant feet etc ) He met with Karma – a lion took off his leg. There was also some trophy hunters.

In 1965 all radio beacons were switched off over weekends . To fly out over the weekend with misty weather was a mission (have to stay below the clouds to find landmarks – we had to land at Gabarone ) The dunes could help to find a direction if they could be spotted. Magnetic north was not so true.
