Avoid the Condensation on steel hollow frame

11/03/2007 1:39 AM

Can any body tell me to avoid condensation on the outer surface of a AHU box?

That box is made by welded hollow steel frame and double skin with fiberglass insulation.

The heat is transfer thru hollow frame. How it can control?

I don't know what AHU stands for, but if you know the cause of the problem, you have done the hard part*.

If the heat is transfered through the hollow frame .. then you must fix the skin to the frame with some form of heat break between the two. Rubber sheet and platic fixings...insulation sheet and adhesive?

* (I always say solving problems is easy...the hard thing is identifying the problem)

You don't say what the skin is made off? If it is steel or aluminium then it is likely to suffer from condensation anyway. So if you can't fix the froblem, then maybe add a drip tray or a condensate pump.

(I reserve the right for this to be of no help whatsoever ...especially as I don't know what AHU is!)

AHU - "air handling unit".

"AHU" Means Air Handler unit means air is treated i.e. cooling.

AHU is a double skin insulated chamber and there is min. two opening for air in and other is air out.

when cool air enter in the box than cool air loose cooling on inner skin and hollow frame and these are transfer cooling to outer surface

Get rid of the tube and bend the ends of the panel to form a tube so that the insulation can be run up in to it or under it. Seals on edges of the panels to reduce air flow thru the panels at the seams.

Control it? Collect the condensate and sell it to Atlanta, Georgia to recharge Lake Lanier.

hi..

U can take some temp measurements around the spot whereby the condensation appears on AHU frame using a fluke temp meter.. the purpose is to identify the "breach" whereby the cold air migrate and spread from one cold spot onto other region of the AHU frame..

take the temp reading also around around cold spot; this is to help you identify the suspect point of breach. The insulation inside the AHU may be poorly insulated or there is an insulation breach inside. In any case, u may have to stop your AHU to check the insulation inside by the AHU vendor.

Also u would also like to know the ambient RH & temp in the AHU room... does the room has high RH?
