Fixing Plastic Sheets on Old Brick Walls in House

07/21/2020 8:08 AM

Dear friends,

We wish to fix plastic sheets on some old brick walls in our house.

Can you please advise the 'specification' of sheet and have it be of reasonably good quality, appearance, waterproof?

Thanks,

NV Mani

This sounds like a local "means and methods" application that should be answered by a local contractor or inspector and not an international forum. Here a plastic moisture barrier is building code to prevent a cold outer wall to have condensation and possible ice buildup. In Chennai you might need to mitigate insect or mold with this plastic.

"We wish to fix plastic sheets on some old brick walls in our house."

These old brick walls... interior or exterior? What type of brick walls?

Fixed with fasteners, adhesive, brackets or hangers of some type?

Transparent, translucent, perhaps opaque plastic sheets? Impact resistance index - are the children allowed to bounce a baseball against the walls? Resistant to fading in the sun?

What is the intended function of these plastic sheets once fixed in place?

Are the varied spray/roll/brush on waterproof coatings available unacceptable? If yes, what makes them unacceptable?

First, take off the old ones, completely.

Second, put up the new ones of your choice, according to manufacturers' directions.

Third, clean up all remaining debris, mess, etc., completely.

Fourth, enjoy...
