Help Me Pick A Vinyl Cutter!

09/12/2020 3:08 AM

Hello everyone. I've been using Adobe illustrator for a couple of years now, and I wondered if I could maybe make some money on Etsy selling vinyl stickers and other stuff, but mostly a toy for myself. I'm trying to figure out what to do. It seems I'm probably more interested in a "custom cutter," but art cutters are less costly than just vinyl cutters.

I don't want a huge piece of machinery, so I looked at the Silhouette Cameo and the Cricut Explore initially, but I don't know which one is better (help?)

It looks like these craft cutters will also cut fabric and if you use registration marks, also cut out paper objects it seems (Which is really cool). From what I can gather a regular and more expensive vinyl cutter cant do these things I think?

The main difference between the Cricut and the vinyl plotter for mini business is that the Cricut lets you use regenerated images and files that you have to buy from the company producing them.

If you want to export stuff from Illustrator and use that for cutting, Silhouette is the one you want.

And yes, you can get them to cut paper, vinyl and fabric. You can draw with them, too, using special pen inserts rather than knives.
