Power Generation

11/13/2007 9:22 AM

Hello friends, Are you aware of a rule of the thumb stating that the required force to rotate a generator is generally the equivalent of 1 and a half time its weight. I think I've read that in a science book. I need some confirmation on the matter ASAP. Please help! edisson.

At what radius? It takes torque to rotate anything (torque is force times distance at right-angles to the force vector).

  • Force,Weight,Mass, POWER,ENERGY. M LT Units self-check .
  • SI vs Engineering cgs units, British Units ,USA FOLK-USEAGE Units
  • higher/lower Calorific values of various Causto-Bioliths used for steam -raising
  • Acceleration due to gravity(maybe at sea level on planet earth.)
  • Moment Arm,
  • Torque into overcome Stiction
  • Inertia of a rotor inside an Alternator
  • Accessibility to Rotor in an Installed Turbo-Genset
  • Cranking Gear
  • Rankine Cycle.
  • IGCC
  • Various Oxygen- added Gasifiers working, planned, being conceived presently
  • Various Extraction and reheating modes used in Steam Turbines
  • Thermal - to -Electro-power conversion efficienciy range possible in various Turbo Gensets.
  • Ash content in Coals/Lignites and resultant loss of efficiency in the Generation

These and more needs to be mastered first before you should attempt getting something even better from CR4 Discussions.

Do not Give up. You have future in your hands.
