Heat Treatment of "SK5"

11/13/2007 11:13 AM

Does anybody know anything about the Heat Treatment of SK5? My friend from China is helping me try to figure out what kind of material I should use on my Project and She talked about a SK5 steel that had properties like spring steel. I have tried to find information about the material and how to heat treat it and came up with nothing. Is SK5 slang for something else? Any help would be appreciated and it might save me from pulling my hair out.

Dear Sir,

As I know SK5 is a Japan tool steel. Its equivalant is DIN 1.1625.

Soft Annealing Temp 680-710 oC Hardness 190 HB 30 640 N/mm2

Hardening Temp (in water) 780-810 oC Tempering Temp 200-300 oC for hot working

and 180-300oC as a carbon tool steel Hardness after hardening 64 HRC Depth of Hardness 2.5 to 4 mm

On heat treatment all conditions required for tool steels should be followed.

I hope this information enough for your requirements.

Regards
