Automatic Voltage Regulator is a voltage corrector that senses the voltage fluctuations of the input voltage and depending on the variation (plus or minus) bucks or boosts the output so that at the output voltage remains constant at the pre set value irrespective of the variation of the incoming voltage.

Automatic voltage regulator does not affect the voltage variation. It maintains the vltage to a preset values irrespective of variation in input/incoming voltage within certain limits .If the incoming voltage variation is beyond the preset limits it cuts off the supply. There are many types and variations in AVR depending upon the application .The AVR in a generator corrects the excitation to ensure that out put voltage is maintained at rated values when there is a drop /rise in generator terminal voltage.
