How high voltage do you hope to get? in/out?

power?

Normally I am always very willing to help someone as best I can to the best of my ability. I have a tendency to overlook underlying reasons and always give someone the benefit of the doubt.

But in this instance, I am astounded with what appears to be extreme lack of concern for the effort that would be required to answer your question in CR4, which could be more quickly and efficiently answered with a little internet research on your part.

It makes me think that you are the type of person that expects everyone to cater to you so you don't have to expend any of your own energy which translates to you having a low opinion of the value of others.

I hope I am wrong. I prefer to think the best of everyone.

Why don't you start doing some thinking?, research?, google?

When requiring help with school ork, take the extra two seconds to actually sign up and create a user identity, instead of guest. You probally will get an answer instead of the old college try.

Perhaps this guest needs some of the terminology ... so here is a brief overview.

A voltage regulator has a voltage reference source.

It has an error detecting device or comparator that compares the output voltage with the reference voltage.

When the error changes the voltage regulator supplies more or less current to the load as required to reduce the error.

If a short circuit occurs, a well designed voltage regulator has a crowbar section that shuts off the output current to protect the voltage regulator.

For small projects there are many types of integrated circuits that need only to be wired correctly to work in your application.

True, and I did NOT post a list of IC voltage regulators. As others have pointed out ... they are easy to find ... if one knows to look.

I just had a flashback to the times when voltage regulators gave off a pretty blue glow and they had funny part numbers such as 0A1 and 0A2.

Yes! I remember those too and the mercury vapor rectifier tube in an old "battery eliminator" my father had that weighed about 40 pounds. Do you also remember the hum from the vibrator in your car radio. I think I may still have one of those kicking around in my basement workshop somewhere.

The original DC-DC converter maybe... IC's were years in the future and transistors were barely invented... We've come a long way Baby!!

We should change the name from CR4 to "CR4oogle", although, in Google there were 1,570,000 hits in 0.24 seconds for Automatic Voltage Regulator and in CR4 there were less than 10 in several days so I guess if we go to "CR4oogle" you lazy bastards that answer posts like this better speed it up before we go public as a "Bio-mass search engine" !!
