Outboard cooling systems descaling and desalting

11/24/2007 6:39 PM

This is a common problem with operators who do not have easy access to regular rinsing facilities and like me, because the motors are regularly used for approximately two hours daily, accumulation in the systems is unavoidable.

Downtime on the dismantling for eventual physical buildup evacuation is always a problem which promted the quest for perhaps a chemical solution.

As the motor block and water passages are of alloys that succumb too readilly to normal acid based descalers, I am at a complete loss! Fellow sufferers, speak with me please!!

Hi

There is a commercial product available branded "salt away". It is in liquid form.

It is supplied with a venturi type suction bottle that one puts in-line with the water flushing system (buuny ears). It smells like "Clean Green". It is rather pricey and I would love to know what the active ingredient is.

It is probably an organic solvent or mixture and appears very gentle on the aluminium passage ways.

Regards
