Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP)

In ESP, +ve Terminal is earthed for collecting the dust and -ve terminal is for charging the dust particles. Why +ve terminal only earthed?If -ve terminal is earthed what happens?

Create more dust I suppose (hence the Bang as the others put it) instead of getting rid of it.

There's a bit of logic to it also if you come to think of it as (+)particles lack electrons whereas (-)particles contain surplus of electrons (like dust if you pre-charge them) and they tend to migrate/stick to any positively charged surface.
