Energy economy.

Most run on a computer package these days, tied to various satellites located around the building via a data link. Each satellite has inputs and outputs relating to certain building facilities, and the software sorts it all out.

Whatever you wish it to be! Some systems just monitor heating and cooling. Others can be for security to lock down all doors and allow entry only through key pass or electronic means. Others are for Fire detection and supression, lighting and energy conservation, Video recording of corridors and perimeters, etcetera.

These systems can then be modified to be as simple or thorough as your needs require or your finances allow.

Building Automation has become so intellegient that you can have network of your intellegient system and monitor it round the globe. Intelligient building automation means to controlling you heating & ventillation units, controlling access in your doors & monitoring the same in CCTV, intrusion detection, Water leak detection with fire detection & suppression systems which will make the building fully intellegient to the human level. Prelarms & alarm conditions can be communicated to the centralised server that is capable of handling all the systems and integrated to 3rd party systems where ever required & intimation if required to your mobile phone is possible.

Building Management System (BMS) is a high technology system installed on buildings that controls and monitors the building's mechanical and electrical equipment such us air handling and cooling plant systems, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and security systems. BMS consists on software and hardware. Software program, usually configured in a hierarchical manner, can be proprietary using such protocols as C-bus, Profibus, etc. Recently however new vendors are producing BMSs that integrate using Internet protocols and open standards like SOAP, & XML, BacNet, Lon, Modbus
