Metal Detector

12/03/2007 12:08 AM

Does anybody know about small metal detector having high sensitivity but giving radiation straight with narrow band (width not wavelength) just like laser propagation .Actually this metal detector will be used for detecting a small steel ball

in a plastic cylinder containing viscous latex fluid, at the fixed point to determine its

constant velocity when falling in the fluid .This velocity will be used in determining

viscosity of the fluid using Stoke's Law .?

Of course we could do. My question in addition you talk about just a flow meter based on a raising metal ball inside of a plastic tube, do you not? So where is your question then? Just use an ordinary metal detector based on Approximity Sensing with long distance ability. Or concentrate to a coiled system, where the tube is non magnetic and you might set the system where the metal ball is. Then in a result out of this you will receive a signal to trigger say two or more LEDs. Need a solution?

Thanks for your help .

Actually the steel ball will be dropped in the plastic cylinder containing viscous

colored latex fluid so the ball cannot be seen .During its fall To determine its exact location at a specified time we have to use small metal detector to detect its

location when it would be exactly in front of the small metal detector .So precision

is important here .Regular Security metal detectors are wide and radiating electromagnetic waves at widely range because the purpose is different .

Hope my point is clear

well I suggest to make me a sketch. Just by experience it will work both sides either drop in to float down or in case the stream floats from bottom to the top you will achieve always a constant level of the ball in case the fluid is of constant viscosity. Just try it. Another option by the way is an ROTARY VISCOSITY METER. So you even can set the vicosity and either by means of adding liquid or temperature can manage to achieve constant viscosity. It is my job to solve such tasks so where is your problem. Also you could manage to have a GAMMA probe ... however this is hard radiation sensitive. All above are even Ex-proof systems. Try again.

A release of the ball with a timing mechanism that would stop when the ball passes a proximity sensor should be quite accurate. The width of the tube would need to be determined to make sure the mechanism would sense the presence of the steel ball. Working with known viscosities in a transparent solution could be used to form a baseline to calculate unknowns and also to set up the parameters and sensitivity of the prox sensors.

Could you post me your land mail adress and name of company. I do presume you are working in the NR industrie manufacturing either medical gloves or condoms, do you not?

Get in touch as it was my profession to design from scratch technical answers by means of a technical solution. So to answer your question who makes it? Well you can buy such from companies however you will not be prepared that amount of money they will charge you.

To make a long story short: Tell me you company and tracks to get in touch individually.

Get in touch . send me an e-mail access or logg in to yahoo messenger. I will get back to you either set at GOOGLE rotary viscosity meter if you intend to go for that. else you need to send me a rough sketch to give you an advice. also we need a serious word 'who pays' .. you seriously do know 'a good advice is worth a return'.

e-mail me at jackotrade46 @ yahoo.de

On the other hand I might have a task for your company which will interest you MD and GM.

Take care

Hi, specialists, how does the metal detectors work? Is that descriprion below is correct?

The operation of metal detectors is based on the principles of electromagnetic induction. It generates a rapidly changing magnetic field by running the alternating current though coil, which will generate eddy currents inside the metal objects. Thereby, the eddy currents will create a new magnetic field that affects the original one, and then the metal detectors will utter a high-pitched tone. The accuracy and reliability of the metal detectors depend on the stability of frequency of electromagnetic launchers. Generally, the frequency is between 80 to 800 KHz. The lower the frequency, the better detection for iron objects. Similarly, the higher the frequency, the better detection for high carbon steel objects. The sensitivity of the metal detectors decreases with the expanding detecting range. Moreover, the induction signal depends on the metal particle size and conductivity. quote from detectorall.com
