Will any one tell how to calculate the pressure loss in low pressure feed water heater. On what factors does it depend.

A1) Oh, yes: the equipment manufacturer will know how to do this on a new one, having done it countless times before on previous equipment that it has supplied.

A2) Oh, considering the age of the equipment, how about:

  • The size, shape, length and other mechanical features of the wetted parts
  • The temperature and pressure of the heat transfer fluid
  • The temperature, pressure, density and viscosity of the heated fluid
  • The amount and size of solids in the process fluid
  • The state of corrosion of the equipment
  • The state of scale build-up within the equipment
  • The state of sludge build-up within the equipment
  • The number of mechanical features that have been blanked-off due to malfunction
  • The number, sizes, shapes and configuration of any baffles within the equipment
  • etc.

Oh, and the amount, size and shape of any extraneous solid that has unintentionally arrived in the equipment and blocked it. It wouldn't be the first time, for example, that a missing pipe wrench has reappeared where it shouldn't.
