Welcome to CR4, Guest. I hope you'll come back and register. CR4 has been around since December of 2004.

While we're on the subject I would love to hear how it was created and by whom. I have the highest regard and respect for all of you and I have not missed a single day of visiting this page since finding it.

INDEED! I too am awaiting enlightenment as to the specifics of the historical evolution of this forum. I can guess how it has developed recently, but I'd like to know more about the early days, and whether the development has been at all near what was envisioned.

Honestly. I'm really not on the CR4 advertising/promotions team, But when I hear the term "information superhighway", I immediately think of this page.

Our guest has ignited my curiosity. It may mean starting another thread to get an answer here.

I remember well how I got "hooked" on the CR4 forum. It's due to an email I received from a colleague and member (RustyH2O) about 13 -14 months ago. I have checked it almost every day since. Thanks Rusty.

Me too...me too....Hooked is only part of it...I check it daily.

I find it two..no three things.

1. The greatest collection of shared wisdom and experience in existence.

2. The greatest listing of naive questions ever.

3. The gall of some guest poster's wanting someone else to do their school home work or wanting some professional to..for free... answer complex technical questions without willingness to compensate that professional.

"there ain't no free lunch"

In my advanced years it provides me with contacts in many fields of interest...always an extreme pleasure.

MANY THANKS TO THE CREATIVE STARTERS OF THIS VENUE.

MR. GUY

I was turned on to C4 By Science Mag.

I now check out C4 more than Science online.

I've learned tons from both.

Keep up the good work

Brad

Wow, you go on vacation for a few days and you miss some of the best threads. First, let me say that it warms my heart to read the positive comments that y'all have put forward about CR4. For a long time, this site was a labor of love that we weren't certain would survive. We first conceived the idea for the site in the fall of 2004. GlobalSpec, our parent company, was receiving dozens of questions a week from users who needed help with engineering concepts not directly related to the products available on our site. Even though we have a solid stable of quality engineers, the act of keeping up with these questions was getting out of hand, so we decided to develop a community site where engineers could help each other get the answers they needed.

We launched the first version of CR4 in December 2004. The launch was very soft and mostly just a place where Globalspec engineers talked about news. In April of 2005, we launched the second version of the site using an open source software called Slash (yup, the basis for Slashdot). Those of you who have been around a while may remember those "bad old days". Lot's of technical glitches and antiquated, UI that was not at all user-friendly. Even so, the site was catching on and a hardcore, devoted audience began coming back daily.

By December of 2005, we had outgrown the Slash platform and began developing the CR4 that you all know today. mgaulin basically built the thing from scratch. We had our third launch in August 2006, and the site literally exploded. Traffic, registrations, posts, blogs, all ramped up exponentially.

Running the site these days is as much a labor of love as a labor of necessity. Reading posts like this are my reward...
