Remote Camera Operation

06/11/2021 2:46 AM

Just got into a project for a motor vehicle turntable for a car dealership. We were just responsible for the Vsd Operation. Start 0 degrees / Stop at 540 Degrees, and also an output to start a photo camera operation, another 2 outputs to start and stop a video camera. We achieved our target but the problem is that the company who designed the project and the company who supplied the cameras don't have a clue how to remotely operate the cameras. So to complete the project, I have said to the customer that I would try to find a solution. It's a bit out of my league and that is why I am reaching out to the CR4 Comunity. We have 2 cameras, one takes photos, the other takes videos

What I would like to achieve is by using the USB Port on the Cameras to be able to do 2 Tasks.

Task 1, take a photo or video (Via the outputs from the Plc, Take Photo, Start Stop Video)

Task 2, send the images via the USB Port to a computer so that they can compile the images.

Just thinking out loud, I am thinking the first task is to connect the camera to the computer and remote controls through a USB Splitter. One USB to the computer, the other to our remote control relays. That is a far as I have got.

I am thinking that we may have to use a Raspberry Pie, for the photo video commands. I also have little, I mean no experience in programming that type of device!

Any advice is appreciated, this is out of my league, but I have never backed down from a challenge.

Thanks for the assistance, I have made some inquires about the software and input interface from the company you pointed me to. I would have preferred to be able to find a simple way to start the camera and video and send the data to the customers computer so that they can edit without the additional expence of purchasing software.

Well you could just use a media platform like facebook or youtube or what ever you may be familiar with really...I guess it depends on the presentation and quality you desire...You can control the cameras and lighting yourself with bluetooth and download the photos and video to your computer, edit it with a software program ( I use Power Director) but there are tons of video editor software out there...You can buy the rights to any music you want to use....

Here's one I did just foolin' around with my cell phone...

Hi Solar Eagle, I am not to worried about the editing software, I am more concerned with starting the Camera / Video from the PLC and then transferring the images to a local computer.

So I would check to see if the cameras are Bluetooth enabled...and the cameras should record to a memory card which should be removeable which then just plugs into the pc and you can download the files to your film editor...or at least transfer over the usb plug...if that's the case there should be a disc with software for the camera....If you have the brand and model #'s of the cameras, I can take a looksee...

A sequence of images is picked up on by the camera, which is transmitted as a signal that passes on to the recording device and display device. The camera itself captures the video source. An economical way might be to use a trail camera that is Blue Tooth and cellular enabled. Some are available with 24MP resolution and 720 video. That should be sufficient for your purposes. They are motion activated, which would work with your application.I am sure there are some with remote off-on available,I have not investigated extensively,I will leave that up to you.

Around $200 bucks if you shop around.Cheap!!

I tried to edit this reply but it failed due to a time out.

There was plenty of time left,so something is malfunctioning.

This has happened several time before,so this is an on going problem.

It needs a permanent fix.

Thanks!

What you want I believe may easily be accomplished using (1) motion activated camera like those used in alarm systems..

The same camera can record both snapshots and videos depending on how you configure its settings. The camera may also have a microSD that can record and store a predetermined length of video clip. The camera can be hardwired or WiFi connected to the router and can accessed anywhere by a computer for control purposes..

The best part is, most of these cameras are available for less than $100.00, like $50.00 ..

A Happy Father's Day gift to ALL on sale for $40.00 If not mistaken..

The customer had 2 of the hard wired remotes on order one arrived today, with a few modifications we now have it ready to be controlled via the Plc Output The good thing is the remote control uses the Multi1 input which means that the USB port is free to send the images directly to the computer.

Problem Solved, Thanks to all for their Input

Hi, I will ask for the link to the website that they will sell on and will send the link on this thread, then you can view not just one but plenty of cars, just don't buy one, the shipping cost is tremendous.

Just keep your finger away from that buy now button!

I can't say anything online because I have to see it. Maybe you should hire a computer professional. I'm sure an employee can do it in a couple of minutes. Once the video and photos are ready, it's easy to put them all together in the format you want. During my work, I use a free video editor online. The bright and colorful interface is very easy to learn how to use. Best of all, it's all free. You can try your hand at it without losing money. I'm sure you can do it because you never give up on a challenge.
