Computer query

12/07/2007 11:27 AM

I have a computer question to ask. I have a problem with my computer, every time I start it up, it gives me an error message # ERROR IN QMGR.DLL#. can anyone tell me how I can correct it. I try restart, I try re-load my ME operation system. None of these actions work. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you may have a Trojan

See http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100699.htm. Need to clean it

Or you may simply have a corrupted file

Go to these places to find a repair or upgrade

I agree with Techno, it could be a trojan. The qmgr.dll is infected by some trojans because that file is associated with the Windows background intelligent(yeah, right) transfer service. This is where the trojans get their backdoor.

If it is just corrupted, you can follow one of the previous links, or just download the qmgr.dll file here: http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/Q/qmgr.dll/6.6.2600.2180/download.html

Good luck!

I see you are using Windows Me.

That operating System was full of bugs, gave lots of problems, and Microsoft has discontinued further assistance for it.

Perhaps it is time for upgrading to Win2000 or WinXP, (if you can obtain use of an Instal Disk for either), both are quite stable.

As already stated, you trouble is most likely malware of some sort.....

Personally, after working only a few weeks with Linux, I would suggest Linux Mandriva.

Have you recently deleted any program without proper Un-install?
Or un-installed any program during which your System Hanged or failed?

1. Search for the .dll file in "Windows"
If found register it with step 2.

2. [I have never worked on ME] If SFC works in Windows-ME restore the .dll file from Windows CD.

If above steps do not resolve the problem or there is no such file in Windows and SFC-run do not detect the problem of the .dll file:

Warning!

Editing the System Registry can have seriously affect your system. Make no changes to the System Registry without having a complete backup of important files and only after setting a System Restore Point.

Look how to restore Registry during re-boot before hand.

Run regedit & search for links in registry 7 delete all links and reboot.

Hope problem will be resolved.
Best of luck!

I can't vouch for this but take a look ; http://www.programchecker.com/file/31605.aspx

As others have said you should ditch ME fast. Windows 98 no longer has support either. You really need to get XP. Not a happy solution because it's full of 'bloat' and it's default settings aren't good for security. Don't go for Vista ( browse CR4 and you will find that most people are of this opinion). Searching CR4 will also reveal some of the good free software you can use for security (there is a lot of malware out there that masquerades as free security utility). At a real push you could get your system running, but it really would be better to bite the bullet and upgrade. I'm guessing that you have checked the miscreant file on google or someplace, but if you haven't it's worth a try if you really don't want to upgrade. It would be interesting to hear back how you get on ( you must have some sort of access now - ?)

Best of luck.
