Can you add a fuse?

04/12/2022 5:04 AM

The idea of "add a fuse" is that you remove an existing fuse, put that removed fuse plus a suitable fuse for the new circuit into the device, and then plug the device into the slot from which the fuse was removed...and power your new circuit with the pigtail wire on the device.

do you have any good ideas?

I'm confused. Is the "new circuit" a different rating than the original circuit? A picture or diagram of the proposal might help with understanding the concept.

Yes. Here’s one: isn’t the fuse there to protect the wiring?

Isn't your query related to a famous Murphy's Law?

"A fuse placed to protect a circuit, will let the circuit fry first, and only then blow"

At least your 16A fuse is edible after it's fried.

Ok, so do you want to use a fuse holder as a circuit extender or is this a completely independent (new) circuit added across the original fuse block?

I'm normally in a state of confusion but this is different, even for me.

Yes. Consult a qualified local Electrician.
