CuOF vs CuHCP

04/13/2022 11:05 AM

Hello all,

What differentiates CuHCP from CuOF other than Phosphor content? Looking at the datasheet, I don’t see any significant difference!

We are working on a project which needs busbars to be connected using welding processes, most probably Laser/ultrasonic welding, otherwise resistance welding. Since the busbars are planned to be welded with the customer interface at its site, we have been dictated to use CuOF. Due to the ongoing situation, our suppliers find it difficult to obtain CuOF.

We requested our customer to use Cu-HCP instead CuOF. However, our request was declined because the welding process has not been validated for the CuHCP, and the process parameters are different. Is there any other reason which prevents using CuHCP instead of CuOF in addition to the above?

I am just trying to understand so that for future projects, I can also consider CuHCP as an alternate for CuOF!

Thank you

You would probably need to do a study specific to your proposed use, including welding methods and materials, environment, strength requirements, and everything else associated with this application...everything matters

The answer is in the question: <... reason which prevents using CuHCP instead of CuOF......because the welding process has not been validated for the CuHCP, and the process parameters are different...>. Nothing else is needed.

I know nothing about this sort of thing, but, there's a data sheet here:-

Which includes these sections
