California court declares bees are actually fish..

it appears the California Court declares Bees are actually fish, to get them on the endangered species list.

I can see the thought and reasoning behind this, but way they are going about it is just plan stupid.

This is how everything become so redefined to being unrecognizable.

Here is the article.

Global decline of bumblebees is phylogenetically structured and inversely related to species range size and pathogen incidence

A study on bumble bee species ...

...." We assembled a database representing approximately 43% of the circa 260 globally known species, which included species extinction risk assessments following the International Union of Conservation of Nature Red List categories and criteria, and information on species traits presumably associated with bumblebee decline.

We quantified the strength of phylogenetic signal in decline, range size, tongue length and parasite presence.

Overall, about one-third of the assessed bumblebees are declining and declining species are not randomly distributed across the Bombus phylogeny.

Susceptible species were over-represented in the subgenus Thoracobombus (approx. 64%) and under-represented in the subgenus Pyrobombus (approx. 6%).

Phylogenetic logistic regressions revealed that species with small geographical ranges and those in which none of three internal parasites were reported (i.e. Crithidia bombi, Nosema spp. or Locustacarus buchneri) were particularly vulnerable. "....

This clearly all started going wrong when they decided that fish were invertebrates.

Which California Court and when and where. I would like to see that judgement for context and application.
A broken clock is still correct twice a day - you just have to be smart enough to realise when.

..."“Accordingly, a terrestrial invertebrate, like each of the four bumble bee species, may be listed as an endangered or threatened species under the Act,” the 3rd district California Court of Appeals Associate Justice Ronald Robie wrote. In short, the ruling restored protections to bumblebees, which were initially classified as endangered by California Fish and Game Commission in 2019. Agricultural groups later appealed this decision, and in 2020, a judge from the Sacramento County Superior Court sided with farmers, citing the law was only intended to protect invertebrates who live in marine habitats such as fish.

They should do it right, and use the scientific species name (Apoidea) or something of the sort..

I haven't had honeycomb for decades. Don't think I have seen it for sale either.

Bumble bees do not make excessive honey, and are not aggressive. That is why greenhouses use them for pollinators, and have hives for them in the greenhouses.

In the USA most honey is made buy the Italian/Carniolan hybrid, due to it's particular characteristics that favor domestication.

Honey comb is available from local beekeepers or on-line.

Most honeycomb is melted down and sold in large blocks for candles and natural medical, and commercial uses.

The darker honey has more health benefits than refined or lighter honey.

When I was a kid,we were taught how to find a wild beehive. We simply observed the bees when they left the flower when they were loaded with pollen. They always fly in a straight line to and from the hive.If you lost sight of the bee, just wait and another would come by so you continued following till you found the hive.

This was the best honey I have ever had, unless the hive was very old,and the honey looked like molasses.;It had a very strong taste. This was used in baking, unless you were really hungry for honey, then it did not matter. We always left some honey for the bees so they would restart the hive in the same location.Hives could be harvested for many years this way.

Hard to beat a thumb hole stuck in a hot homemade biscuit with home churned

butter and honey melted in the honey hole.

"Those were the days my friend"

If just one person moved from California to Boston,it would increase the average IQ for both states.

it appears the California Court declares Bees are actually fish, to get them on the endangered species list.

And while they're at it, they should redefine π to be equal to 3.0, to be fair to the mathematically challenged. Many mathematicians have testified that its present value is irrational.

The word "ghoti" is pronounced "fish". Here's why:

  • the "gh" is the last sound in the word "enough"
  • the "o" is the first vowel in "women"
  • the "ti" is pronounced the same way as the "ti" in "station".

Just sayin'.
