10,000 times faster than living synapses

Researchers are developing analog synapses that can react 10000 time faster than a biological one,and do it very efficiently,using CMOS compatible programmable resistors.

Will this be the next stage of AI development?

Wii humans stand a chance against such computing power?

CMOS, i.e. complementary, both N and P mosfets on the same, usally Silicon substrate, is known to have a linear(ish) region of operation which is a disaster on digital systems but can be used as an analog amp, the base for analog computing. Fets are essentially resistors controlled by voltage. But behavior is heavily temp dependant unless negative feedback is applied, so it will be a big headache to compensate for that. Plus ther's significant changes as semiconductors age, can't see how such a system can become reliable with current technology. And ther'll be nothing worse than an analog AI unit with dementia, mood changes and/or multiple personalities.. Well, this can work on humans for a while, you can pass "notes" occasionally to chaps in office, but how can you do that on chips? S.M.
