Generator cooling water PI diagram.

Dear Sirs,

What a generator cooling water PI diagram is? In one that i have, it has 6 driving end bearing oil coolers, 6 generator oil coolers, 6 non driving end bearing oil coolers. On the contrary, the drawing shows only 2 coolers on 'six driving end bearing oil coolers', 2 coolers for '6 generator oil coolers' and another 2 coolers for 'six driving end bearing coolers'. It is a 72 MW generator.

The abbreviation <...PI...> probably means "piping and instrumentation".

Is [getting on the phone to the original equipment manufacturer to request an up-to-date drawing of the equipment] an activity that is overdue?

why are they showing "six coolers" but keeping only two coolers? That is in the figure above, for the driving and non-driving end also, only two coolers out of six coolers are kept.

as far as I know, we have one cooler and one standby cooler for hydrogenerator.

What is of value to the forum is the outcome of the phone call with the original equipment manufacturer. Please get back to the forum once the <...we...> has that information. Please explain why an "as built" <...PI diagram...> for the equipment is not to hand.

I think we are having trouble understanding your meaning between showing and keeping, they either are there or not, show on the drawing, (which by the way the drawing out of context is basically useless), but not appearing (keeping)on the job site?

I suspect that the drawing is poorly constructed, perhaps by someone who has no idea what the drawing might be used for, or that you have not found the rest of the drawings that tie these drawings to the equipment. The quality of documentation can vary depending on how many of these machines they have ever built.

The drawing to hand does not match the equipment to hand.

Simply contact the original equipment manufacturer, and ask for the right one.

You might have 2 different bearing designs, or it could be a more aggressive preventive maintenance schedule applied...A bearing design that generated less heat could have been introduced, or perhaps an advanced lubrication, or even an existing cold water supply at this particular location, or operating in a cooler environment....It all comes down to heat load and how it's being dealt with....perhaps the coolers are more efficient who knows...without more details this is an exercise in futility....
