Why would manufactured dill pickles smell like chlorine?

09/20/2022 6:25 AM

In our restaurants, a batch of dill pickle jars opened and the ingredient smelled like chlorine bleach. what does it mean? How does this happen? what is wrong with the processing method of the manufacturer or industrial food processor?

I appreciate an expert response on that.

A response from the organisation named on the <...batch of dill pickle jars...> might be more valuable. Telephone?

There is no point in us speculating on what went wrong here, the pickles need to be tested by a lab for safety, or discarded and replaced...

Isn't chlorine routinely used to wash vegetables? Maybe this batch has not been sufficiently rinsed.

Recommended by the world health org for sanitizing equipment, spraying with sodium hypochlorite or alcohol....it's that covid thing...doesn't take much to ruin the taste of something....
