	In our cement factory, two types are earth pits are prepared.One type is called Electrical earth.The other type is called Instrumentation earth.Instrumentation controls like PLCs and panels are connected to Instrumentation panel.Please explain me why Instrumentation earth is required and what are the items to be connected to this. What are the disadvantages if Instrumentation earth is not seperately maintained. Thanks and Regards, NVRSrinivas

	To summarize the link Solar Eagle provided which is very good reading, separating the instrument earth from the electrical (safety) earth helps reduce electrical noise noise problems with sensitive electronics (instruments/process control) caused by noise sources such as motor inverters/drives or any other power conversion equipment especially those with switching converters.

	Because a fault on the power equipment earth/ground lead is going to be enormous in comparison with the capability of instruments to withstand, were they connected to it. Instruments can’t withstand several tens of kiloamps.
