PLUG WELD -ULTRASONIC TESTING

How to get better fusion rate especially for plug welds ? For GMAW welding I used to get 3 mm to 7 mm penetration while scanning by TR probe.

iIf you have flexibility of process you could go with metal core wire that gives better penetration with not many changes. Even simple flux core or dual shield does, but you get a lot of smoke and splatter that is not easily managable on all environments, and has worse bead look. S.M

The weld type for plug weld are similar to single bevel groove weld but circular in geometry.

It is like a TKY joint as per aws d1.1 and possible to carry out the UT but special procedure is required.
