Private Message system

12/10/2007 3:48 PM

I was stopped from making any more private messages, until tommorow. I understand this is to prevent abuse. What are the actual rules? I couldn't find this info? Where would I find these types of answers besides FAQ's?

This is not an pressing problem, I'm just curious.

Hi

We haven't document the "rules" because it is kind of hard to explain in a way that is 100% correct and, if we did, it might weaken our protection from spammers, but the gist of it is that you can compose 20 private mail message "per day".

The "per day" part is where it gets tricky, because what the system is really doing is looking for a long enough period of inactivity to say "this user is done for the day". If you post continuously then your counters won't be reset.

The other tricky part is the "compose 20 ..." vs "send 20 ...". As soon as you start writing a message we count it against your total for the period, whether or not you actually send it.

The good news is we (the admins) can increase the limit for any user upon request (and with our approval, of course), and I took this opportunity to increase your limit. To all: send an email to cr4admin@globalspec.com if you run into this problem too.
