In a similar vein, this is one of my favorites:

I often wondered how the people crossing the desert could suffer an illusion of water on the horizon,until I traveled to Amarillo Texas.

The land is so flat that a reflection of the sky can be seen on the ground, blue,and shimmering like water,and mountains that appear nearby are actually 100 miles away.Drive for hours and you never get to them,always just a little bit further and you will be there.

Telephone poles disappear into the distance,turning into matchsticks,and cows can be seen so far away they look like ants, almost like flying over them from a passenger plane.

For a similar effect,turn a high powered telescope around and look thru it in reverse.

What you see depends on how you look at it.

It all depends on your perspective,altitude,and attitude

As in life,things are not always as they seem to be.
